Horticulture

What we do?

Students participate in a variety of gardening activities including planting, watering and caring for vegetables, fruit and herbs.  This hands-on approach helps develop fine motor skills.

Through horticulture, students learn essential life skills such as responsibility, teamwork and patience.  Caring for plants teaches them about the growth process and the importance of nurturing living things.

Students will also learn about sustainability and the environment. They will explore topics such as composting, recycling and the role of plants in our eco-system helping to foster a sense of responsibility for the planet.

Once our fruit and vegetables are ripe and ready for picking, our students take great pride in harvesting these and passing them to our kitchen staff, where they are prepped and cooked for them to enjoy at lunchtime.
