Woodwork and Woodturning


Woodwork/Woodturning provide fun and exciting environment for learning. They encourage creativity, teamwork, problem solving, as well as introducing the vital basics skills associated with carpentry/joinery and woodturning. These courses will develop the skills that employers are looking for in the construction industry, as well as equip them for further study.

 

Woodwork

Our pupils will learn key practical skills in producing woodworking joints, maintaining and using hand tools, and preparing and using portable power tools and machinery. Pupils will learn key practical skills and develop their knowledge of the processes involved, be able to select and use the correct hand tools, power tools
and machinery, the preparation of timber for working and the marking out and cutting of common joints such as dovetails and mitre joints. Students will then design and construct their individual and group projects suited to their own interests.

 

Woodturning

This course provides and excellent opportunity for creativity and expression alongside developing the key practical skills associated with woodturning. Pupils will develop their skills using a wide range of woodturning tools, as their skills develop so will the complexity of the projects, KS3 starting with a spindles/ bowls/ cups moving on to multiple piece constructions using additional materials, to include, games/pens/plant stands and furniture.

 

Courses offer a level 1 and 2 qualification in City Guilds.
